What is micro-dermabrasion?

Sometimes called the 'lunchtime peel', this is a non-invasive, gentle process of using crystals accelerated onto the skin's surface to abrade layers of dead and damaged skin cells. On completion of the abrasive process, a vacuum suction whisks away the fired crystals and the unwanted abraded skin particles leaving your skin smoother, brighter, firmer and with a course of procedures blemish free.

What benefits can I expect to achieve through having microdermabrasion?

You will see an immediate visible result of youthful brilliance and an improvement of dull and stressed looking skin even after one procedure of microdermabrasion. However a program will be advised depending on your skin's condition and aesthetic goals. A program helps maintain an even brighter, clearer and healthier looking skin. Microdermabrasion forms part of a regular acne program and can achieve remarkable results in acne scarring.

What about microdermabrasion combined with other treatments?

Although a microdermabrasion is a fantastic treatment on its own, it can be combined with other treatments. It is commonly combined with a Facial Peel, which is performed immediately after a microdermabrasion and the type of peel used can be tailor-made for you by your cosmetic practitioner. It is also often combined with IPL, known as a Photo-abrasion treatment. This is an intensely rejuvenating treatment that can help correct discolouration on the skin and is a popular treatment to be done prior to a special event such as a wedding. How do I care for my skin after a microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion increases microcirculation, bringing nutrients to the skin. Regular microdermabrasion procedures offer exceptional opportunities for skin with an increase in penetration of homecare creams and serums 4 – 5 times more than skin not treated with Microdermabrasion. Your cosmetic practitioner will recommend a professional cosmetic maintenance program, which will include appropriate sun protection and skin treatments.

Are there any precautions that I must take while undergoing a micro-dermabrasion procedure?

It is recommended that you refrain from any cosmetic procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers at least 7 days prior to your microdermabrasion treatment and for 7 days after your microdermabrasion treatment. Waxing is not recommended 2 days prior to or for at least 7 days after the procedure.

We strongly advise against the use of sun beds and swimming in heavily chlorinated water for at least 2 weeks after micro-dermabrasion has been performed.
