OK so let's get the scientific stuff out of the way first.

One of the most significant detrimental effects on your skins appearance comes from the reduced production of Collagen that naturally occurs after the age of 35! Collagen gives our skin its 'spring' allowing it to bounce back after certain movements and supporting the skin as we grow older. Unfortunately, this lack of production of Collagen and the increased breakdown of existing Collagen, ultimately leads to some of the most noticeable signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and jowls. We feel like the skin is 'drooping' and that there is no support to the face and other parts of the body such as the upper arms and tummy.

The Good Stuff

OK let's skip to the good stuff.

Cutera's medical grade Infra-red technology can be safely used to tighten the skin, improving skin tone and firmness. The areas we most often treat include the cheeks, jaw line, under the chin, neck, eyes, abdomen and upper arms. Titan utilises a safe, infrared light to heat the dermis well below the skin's surface. This heating can cause immediate collagen contraction resulting in tighter skin. During the procedure the skin's surface (epidermis) is protected through continuous cooling with the Titan handpiece. After the procedure new collagen growth results in further tightening with the improvement of lax skin, folds and lines. This smooths out the loose skin around tummies after pregnancy, lifts and tightens floppy upper arms and necks – Amazing!

What You Need To Know

As Titan heats tissue under the skin's surface, patients of any skin type can be treated. Men and women of all ages and skin types are potential candidates. The number of treatments needed varies according to the precise condition and responsiveness of your skin but it typically ranges from one to three treatments over a few months. We can discuss this in detail during a consultation and recommend a treatment program that's suitable for you. Results classically last for 1-2 years but this simple, pain free, lunch-time procedure is so easy and relatively inexpensive that many clients will have a maintenance treatment annually.

How is Titan different from Thermage?

Both heat the collagen in the skin but Titan is reported to be less painful and less sensitive to variations in tissue because it uses a completely different mechanism for heating. As Titan uses infra-red light energy it provides a more uniform distribution of energy for heating the deep dermis than other energy sources such as radiofrequency (RF).

What does it feel like?

Patients are able to tolerate treatments without the use of any anaesthetic, numbing creams or pain medication. There may be a few quick moments or areas of particular discomfort but these are very infrequent and often clients feel so relaxed during the treatment that they almost fall asleep.

What I Need To Tell You

The procedure takes approximately 1 ¼ hrs per area treated. Immediately following the treatment you may notice some redness and mild swelling in the treated area. Both should dissipate within a few hours.

What areas respond best to Titan?

Patients have been successfully treated on many areas of the body where skin is lax. Loose skin along the jaw line, under the chin, the neck, tummy and upper arms have responded particularly well to Titan. Other areas treatable include under and around eyes and cheeks.

When will I see results?

Some patients see results immediately. However for most patients the results are gradual over a three month period as new collagen is formed and the skin tightens.

How long do the results last?

Our patients are still enjoying the benefits of Titan after one to two years but as the skin will continue to age they may opt for a yearly maintenance treatment.

Is it safe?

Yes. Tens of thousands of Titan treatments have been done to date.

What do I need to do after the treatment?

It is important to protect your skin from the damaging aging effects of UV rays so a 30+ sun block will be applied immediately after the procedure and you will be required to continue this for a couple of weeks but please remember that sunlight is probably one of the contributing factors to your particular issue in the first place so why not get in to a habit of blocking it out now! It is also very beneficial to use other methods of enhancing the Collagen stimulation you get from your Titan treatment and one of the commonest advised is a Home Roller. This can be used at the end of your Titan treatment by your Cosmetic Practitioner and you can then take it home and continue to use it 2-3 times per week to maintain the benefits from your treatment. It will increase the absorption of active skin care treatments and will prolong and enhance the results achieved from your Titan treatment.
